1. Scorch Toolbar usage:

1. Turn pages
2. Changes which device you use for playback.
3. Playback controls and tempo slider.* Click play button to play from the start, or click on the score to play from that point or stop.
4. Change top instrument or key*
5. Save*
6. Page Setup*
7. Print*
8. Scorch information and updates
Use Page Up/Page Down and the up/down arrow keys to scroll up and down the score.
To play music in the background while you work, just set Scorch playing, then minimize the window!
2. Error message when I start downloading Scorch
Try clicking the 'alternative http download' link instead of the 'get Scorch' button.
3. Web page printed correctly but with no music or staves on
To print, don't click Print at the top of your browser window, or Print in the File menu, or type Command-P or Ctrl+P - these will print the web page, not the score. Instead, find the score again and click the Print button on the Scorch toolbar (immediately above the music).
4. No paper came out of the printer
Check your printer is switched on, contains paper and is plugged into your computer. If it is, it is probably not set up correctly. Please consult your computer's or printer's manual, or see If there is still a problem below.
5. Printer ran out of paper
With most printers, don't turn off the printer - just feed in some more paper and it should continue printing.
6. Playback doesn't work or sounds strange
Your computer may have several different sound devices you can use (e.g. soundcard, software synthesizer, MIDI output); some of these may be silent or have inferior sounds. Find the score again, click Scorch's Sound button, and choose a different device.
If you are using Mac OS 10.2, otherwise known as Jaguar, you may experience wobbly playback with excessive vibrato. This is due to a bug with QuickTime 6 and there is currently no workaround. We will issue a new version of Scorch that fixes these problems in due course.
7. The music doesn't fit on the paper or is cropped off
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box switch on the Fit to Paper option. (On Mac this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
8. Staff lines and note stems missing, uneven or have rounded ends
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box change the Substitute Lines option. (On Mac this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
9. Arpeggios (vertical wavy lines) or glissandos (diagonal wavy lines) mispositioned
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box change the Substitute Arpeggios, gliss., etc. option. (On Mac this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
10. Alternate pages are missing
You set the score to print only odd/even-numbered pages. Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box choose the Normal and All options. (On Mac these are in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
11. Keyboard braces missing or wrong size
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box change the Substitute Braces option if there is one. (On Mac this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
12. The printer was too slow or ran out of memory
Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box switch on the Substitute Lines option. (On Mac this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box.) Then print.
13. Tried to print several copies but it didn't work
When buying a score you can't print more copies than you have paid for. To set the number of copies, find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box change the Copies value. (On Mac this is in the General area of the dialog box.) Then print.
14. Notes print as text characters or other font problems
Try changing your printer's font settings. For instance, in Windows try printing again but click Properties in the Print dialog box, then try changing options which affect font printing, such as Print fonts as graphics or Print TrueType as graphics (usually on the Font tab of the Properties dialog box).
15. If there is still a printing problem
If you have tried the above solutions to printing problems without success, check if you have the latest driver for your printer.
You should be able to download the latest driver from the printer manufacturer's web site:
* Canon printers: http://www.canon.co.jp/download-e.html
* Epson printers: http://support.epson.com/filelibrary.html
* HP printers: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/eschome.html
* Others: use your web browser to search for the manufacturer.
After downloading the driver, save it somewhere easy to find, such as on your desktop. Then install the new driver.
To install the new driver on Windows, click the Start button at the bottom left of the screen, then Settings, then Printers. Then double-click Add Printer and follow the instructions.
When asked for the manufacturer and model of your printer, if you have just obtained a new driver (e.g. by downloading it), click Have Disk... and find the new driver file you downloaded.
When you've finished, find the score again, click Scorch's Print button and print it to see if it works. You may need to consult this web page again to adjust the way it prints.
16. Error message: "The score is corrupt or missing"
This error message appears when you are using a very old version of Scorch to view a file saved from a newer version of Sibelius or Sibelius Internet Edition. Try upgrading to a newer version of Scorch.
17. Problems reinstalling Scorch (Windows only)
In certain circumstances, Scorch does not reinstall correctly if you try and install it after using Add/Remove Programs (in Control Panel) to uninstall an older version.
If Scorch was the only plug-in installed for your browser, the Scorch uninstaller also removes the Plugins folder. This means that when you attempt to reinstall Scorch, the installer cannot find the required folder to install the plug-in.
The solution is simple: re-create the Plugins folder in the correct location (e.g. for Internet Explorer, usually C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerPlugins), and then run the Scorch installer again.
18. How to Print my Viewed/Purchased Music?
When you have purchased the chosen song you like, you will be able to see the sheet music on the screen (but if you are not able to see the music on the screen then please see our First time Users on how to get started).
Now that you have chosen the music you like, click the print button on the Scorch toolbar (look at the image below).

This should bring up a printer dialogue box similar to this one however when this does not appear, look below:
.png)
If nothing happens when you have clicked on the print button the just try pressing the button "Refresh" or "Reload" in your browser and then press the print button again when the page has reloaded.
If this does not work then you may need to empty your internet cache and just simply try again.
If you are using Internet Explorer you may need to click the print button twice for it to work.
Note: Do not use any other method than the one described above, or the sheet music will not print out.
19. The notes do not appear correctly on the screen:
Delete all Opus and Inkpen fonts from your fonts folder:
- Windows: C:WindowsFonts
- Mac: Mac HD > Library > Fonts
Reinstall Scorch using the manual installation file, then restart your computer:
20. If you can only see the first page
- Make sure that you are accessed on the right area of the site which is located to your Orders to be able to see the sheet music you have bought.
- Please update your version of Scorch by downloading and running the manual installation file for the latest release if you are in the correct area of the site.
- With purchased scores, Scorch displays one page on the screen at a time - try pressing the next page / last page buttons on the left hand side of the Scorch toolbar (directly above the music).
21. Is it possible that I can print to a file or a PDF?
No it is because of copyright reasons. The Scorch files come directly from the publishers server and goes direct to the customer. So printing to file is disabled from the Scorch plug-in and is only possible for you to print directly from an internet-connected computer to a printer since only Scorch is the method to deliver your favorite songs that has been approved by the publishers who is in complete control of the copyrights of the songs that we are licensed for. Therefore we do not have access to the file. No other kind of delivery is permitted of the copyrighted music.
22. Don't hear anything when you click the Play button?
- Check the following:
- Are your speakers connected to your computer?
- Are your speakers plugged in and turned on?
- Is the volume at a reasonable level?
- If you are using Windows, double-click the speaker icon in the bottom-right of your screen, and ensure that the SW Synth slider is up and not muted.
- Try changing the playback device. You can do this by clicking on the Choose Playback Device button on the Scorch toolbar (to the left of the Play button).
23. What to do if you have installed the Scorch plugin and yet you were not able to see the music on screen
- Please follow the Scorch installation instructions carefully.
- Try restarting your computer.
- You may need to alter your computer's settings to allow "ActiveX" controls (Internet Explorer only).
- If you are on a network or are using firewall software with strict settings, the Scorch plug-in may be blocked. Try contacting your network administrator, or access our site from a home PC.
